The color may vary from gray to pink, with darker bands comprised of tiny dots.

The tiger rattlesnake inhabits the drier foothills and adjacent rocky desert where it occupies a niche quite different from the western diamondback and sidewinder.   It appears to have a highly potent venom, but human bites are infrequent.
