RELOCATING
WITH YOUR PET
If you are pondering
about, or already have made the big move to the desert territory, consider
that your critters will also have to deal with unfamiliar surroundings.
Prepare for your pets needs:
- Provide them with
shelter. If they will need to be outside for prolonged periods of time,
remember the Arizona heat can kill.
- Shade trees are
not enough for a dog or cat. Proper shelters will keep them enclosed
and out of the direct sunlight.
-
Several supplies of
fresh water should be available in different locations, both inside and
outside of your home.
- The law requires
that dogs be constrained when on your own property, and on a leash when
they are off it. Chaining a dog can cause you to be cited. Cats have
no leash or constraint restrictions, but should not be allowed to roam.
- Your automobile
is not the place to leave you beloved pet Fido. The temperature inside
a car can reach 120 degrees in a matter of minutes. Leaving a pet in
a locked car is also a violation, and if you are reported, you can be
cited, and/or fined. Cracking a window will not be sufficient ventilation.
- Be sure to find
a good Veterinarian as soon as possible. Be informed about local problems
such as Valley Fever in dogs.
